#AccessTheLife: Here’s why the 2018 Access Lagos City Marathon was so Incredible
They came, they ran, they conquered!
Kudos to all participants of the 2018 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon who ran the streets in grand style.
We’ve highlighted some of their special moments below:
1. New winner alert!
The Kenyans did it again, with athleteAbraham Kiprotichtaking home the grand prize of $50,000. His time - an impressive2 hours 15 minutes and 10 secondson a 42 kilometre track.
Kudos are also in order for the winning Nigerian,Ilya Pam, who finished in 2 hrs 27 minutes.
Notably, Herpha Guta, an Ethiopian athlete, took home first place in the women edition of the competition, with a time of 2 hours and 38 minutes.
His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Access Bank’s current MD, Mr. Herbert Wigwe, and the Minister of Sports were on hand to give prizes to the finalists.
2. Nigerians turned up in numbers
So you can probably tell from the photo above that Nigerians didn’t come to play. At all. Running shoes in tow, they hit the streets and left their determined prints behind.
Peep the 60 year old runner, Ogunjobi, who proved once again that age is nothing but a number.
3. Kid runners gave us major inspiration
Speaking of age, check out the young ones putting in serious mileage of their own. The eight year old,Oluwaseyi Damilola, covered 10 kilometers like a pro.
4. Celebrities showed up too
While the likes ofSeyi Shay, Tiwa SavageandTeknorocked the stage, popular personalitiesMo Abudu, Wedding Party 2 star,Enyima Nwigweand actressKate Henshawwere out in the crowd and in the streets.
5. And love was in the air
Last but definitely not least, a few couples were dishing serious #RelationshipGoals all day.
