Residents of communities recently attacked by alleged shepherds in Benue and Nasarawa yesterday reaffirmed their assurance of adequate protection from the police.
Inspector General Ibrahim Idris promised his men would not repeat the attack in the future
Idris visiting the villages of Gbajimba, Anyiin and Tunga in Benue and Nasarawa said the police were determined to protect the lives and property of the residents He also said that armed police would be sent to the affected communities to avert further attacks and restore normalcy.
The IG also visited some refugee camps in the States.
Gbajimba IG, Guma Local Government Area, Chairman of the Council, Mr. Anthony Shawon praised him for the inspection trip.
Shawon also praised the swift intervention of the Presidency. The state should receive additional security support to alleviate the crisis.
He assured the IG that their people wanted to work for the maintenance of peace as they looked forward to returning to their ancestral homes.
In Tunga The area, Ibrahim Shaibu, denied the allegations that the shepherds were rescued in the area.
He said that the people in his area are law-abiding and provide shelter to the displaced Tiv people in the area. Abraham Vighi, spokesman for the Tiv community in the area, said there are no killer shepherds in the area.
